Taking on the infamous Marathon Des Sables had always been a life-time ambition. Having taken the plunge and committed myself, I was beset by injuries in the training leading up to the race. By January, just 12 weeks before the race was due to start, I had some serious hamstring and lower back problems and it looked like the dream might be over. That’s when I went to see Joan Law at Steps & Providence.
Within the first two visits we had set a clear goal which was to get me on the start line in April, capable of finishing the race. After initial diagnosis and assessment, Joan set carefully-planned strengthening and stretching exercises, coupled with training on the Alter-G Anti-Gravity treadmill. This gave me the grounding I needed to improve my fitness and core strength. I also looked carefully at my own diet and cut out all the non-essentials. By April, I was ready for the race and went on to successfully complete the gruelling 6 marathons in 6 days across the Sahara desert. I can recommend Joan and her practice whole-heartedly.
